Florida: Dan Radakovich Named as Miami Hurricanes New Athletic Director

Miami Makes a Big Hire

Dan Radakovich has been named the new athletic director at the University of Miami, the school announced on Tuesday.

Radakovich, 62, has been the athletic director at Clemson since 2012. Under his leadership, the Tigers have won two national championships in football and one in men’s basketball.

Radakovich will take over at Miami on June 1. He replaces Blake James, who resigned in February after two years on the job.

Miami's New Mission

Radakovich said his goal is to make Miami athletics the best in the country.

“I believe that Miami can be the premier athletic program in the country,” Radakovich said. “We have the resources, the facilities, and the tradition to be successful.”

Radakovich said he plans to focus on improving the football program, which has struggled in recent years.

“We need to get our football program back to where it was,” Radakovich said. “We need to be competing for championships every year.”

Radakovich also said he wants to improve the fan experience at Miami.

“I want to make sure that our fans have a great experience when they come to our games,” Radakovich said. “We want to create an environment that is exciting and fun.”

A Proven Leader

Radakovich has a proven track record of success as an athletic director.

  • At Clemson, he oversaw the construction of a new football stadium and an indoor practice facility.
  • He also hired football coach Dabo Swinney, who has led the Tigers to two national championships.

Radakovich is a native of Pennsylvania. He played football at Penn State and began his career in athletic administration at his alma mater.

Radakovich is married and has two children. He is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the Athletics Director of the Year Award winner in 2016.

Goodbye Clemson

Radakovich said he will be forever grateful for his time at Clemson.

“Clemson has been a special place for me and my family,” Radakovich said. “I will always cherish the memories we have made here.”

Radakovich said he is excited to start a new chapter at Miami.

“I am excited to get started at Miami and help the Hurricanes reach their full potential,” Radakovich said. “I believe that we can do great things together.”
