Early Life and Education
Sarah Wagenknecht was born on July 16, 1969, in Jena, East Germany. She studied economics at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena and later obtained a doctorate in economics from the Humboldt University of Berlin.
Political Career
Wagenknecht began her political career in the German Communist Party (DKP), later joining the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS). In 1990, she became a member of the Bundestag, the German parliament. Wagenknecht served as parliamentary group leader for the Left Party from 2009 to 2015.
After leaving the Left Party in 2015, she founded the "Aufstehen" (Stand Up) movement. In 2017, she established the "Bündnis für Soziale Gerechtigkeit und Solidarität" (The Alliance for Social Justice and Solidarity), commonly known as BSW.
