Celtics Porzingis Trade

Blockbuster NBA Trade Sees Porzingis Move to Celtics

Smart, Jones Swapped as Wizards, Celtics, Grizzlies Finalize Deal

Boston Celtics' Marcus Smart has been traded to the Memphis Grizzlies as part of a three-team deal that sends forward Kristaps Porzingis to the Boston Celtics.

The trade, which was finalized in the early hours of Wednesday morning, also involves the Washington Wizards, who will receive guard Tyus Jones and a future second-round draft pick. The Celtics will reportedly send Memphis a protected first-round pick in return for Smart.

The deal is the latest in a series of moves by the Celtics, who have been active in the trade market since the start of the season. The Celtics sent Kyrie Irving to the Brooklyn Nets in the offseason and acquired Kemba Walker in a four-team trade in February.

Porzingis, a 7-foot-3 Latvian forward, has been a key player for the Mavericks since being traded from the New York Knicks in 2019. He has averaged 20.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per game this season.

Smart, a 6-foot-4 guard, has been a valuable contributor to the Celtics since being drafted by the team in 2014. He is known for his defensive prowess and has been named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team three times.

The trade is expected to have a significant impact on the Celtics, who are currently in the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference standings. Porzingis will give the Celtics a much-needed boost in the frontcourt, while Smart's departure will leave a hole in the team's defense.
